in late fall leaves create blankets across the ground the last few leaves are all falling down one last gust of wind to blow them off and set them free to become the food for which little worms and bugs will eat and soon the ground will freeze and snow will cover fallen leaves and forest creatures all around will rest in holes in the ground birds and butterflies travel south as bears and rodents gorge their mouths with nuts and berries, stems and seeds to prepare for a winters sleep and then some day in spring suns warmth will cover everything and creatures will emerge from their homes to see the little flowers grow snows will melt, warm rains will fall as amphibians will crawl into puddles, pools and streams as the world turns from brown to green
